Uplands Outreach is an educational initiative of Uplands NPC, dedicated to improving learning outcomes in rural Mpumalanga. Established in 1994, the organisation focuses on collaboration, continuous learning, and measurable results, Uplands Outreach works to strengthen education at every level and create lasting change within the communities it serves
Uplands Outreach is an educational non-profit organisation, which works in several Mpumalanga school circuits, and is focussed on boosting educational outcomes in rural Mpumalanga schools. It partners with selected schools in implementing specific programmes aimed at achieving this.
One of its key and impactful programmes – and which is supported by the Jacana Development Foundation – is “School
Leadership for Excellence” (SL4E), conducted in collaboration with the University of Johannesburg and in support of Princi-
pals and Deputy Principals inspired to achieve excellence in their schools
The programme – referred to as SL4E – includes:
The 5th cohort of school leaders – 36 Principals, Deputy Principals and HODs, from 27 schools – concluded its formal, on-line programme in April 2025 and active support for these school leaders continues. Retention rate of this cohort has been 100% and the tracked impact on their schools, is proving to be very positive. Since 2007 when the programme commenced, 158 school leaders have been formally accredited.

THE RALLY TO READ
Literacy Development
The over-arching aim of the Rally to Read is to develop the reading and writing
skills of learners in remote schools – to ensure they are equipped to cope with
secondary school education and positioned to craft their own careers.

Surf Ski Academy Trust
Siyaphambili is an ever-evolving programme and is making a sound impact in en-
suring the surf ski sport becomes increasing inclusive and that the participating
paddlers gain, in addition to sporting capabilities, broader life skills and ever-ex-
panding life horizons.
RECRUITAGRI
Agricultural employment development
The core objective of RecruitAgri is to empower local youth through skills
development and facilitating employment specifically within the agricultural
sector.
SUMBANDILA SCHOLARSHIP TRUST
Scholarship Programme
The Sumbandila Scholarship Trust aims to facilitate the education and
employment of promising youth of colour in the Louis Trichardt area of Limpopo,
through various educational support channels and means.
WISEUP
Women in Sports Education Upliftment Programme
WISEUP exists to uplift young girls through sport and education. Their key focus is on facilitating the successful participation of young black women, from Langa and Khayelitsha, in sports tournaments including the Rustenburg Girls High School Champions Cup.
